Okay; when I looked up Baz Sunscreen I was probably the only person on the planet that didn’t know that it was a famous little Youtube number by Baz Luhrmann, entitled Everybody’s Free To Wear Sunscreen.

I thought that Baz Sunscreen was a brand name that I had not heard of that was good for everyone to know about, since 40,500 good souls had already googled the phrase. It wasn’t a brand that was on the EWG’s (the Environmental Working Group) list of test sunblocks and sunscreens, yet it was apparently very popular to those in the know.

But Baz is right, even if his glowing reference to the need to wear sunscreen is only a small part of his heartfelt video message.

Baz, meet Badger. Badger, meet Baz.

Badger Sunblock products are the only ones on the EWG’s safe sunscreen list that I can even find in an actual physical store, or on an online health store.

So Badger products it is.

Well.ca is your store online for Badger products at great prices.

Or Queen. Whatever your preference for comparision. It’s an oil, people. Let’s not get too hung up on its gender analogy. It hasn’t really got one.

Kukui oil reigns supreme.

It rocks.

Try it.

You will love it.

Eczema and psoriasis, rosacea and sunburn have met their match.

I bought and used some in Hawaii and didn’t burn once. I was out in the sun all day, every day. I put the kukui oil on religiously every two hours or so. The oil is excellent. It keeps the skin smooth, supple and moisturized without being greasy. Great for the lips also. Prevents cracking, drying, and burning.

Protect your baby-boo.

Well.ca carries Alba Kukui OIl and will deliver it to your door. Add it to a liberal application of Badger Sunscreen every two hours. The EWG, the Environmental Working Group, says that Badger Sunscreen is one of the safest sunscreens on the market today. The EWG tested 258 sunscreens on the market today, including all the leading brands such as Banana Boat, Coppertone etc., and found that only 40 sunscreens did not carry carcinogens or false claims for sun protection, or actually had the correct amount of ingredients to properly and safely protect us from burning or contracting skin cancer.

Badger Sunscreen is the only sunscreen in the top forty safe sunscreens, that I could even find in the local health food super store. It is twenty dollars, Canadian, for a small tube, but our children are all worth it.

And so are we!

Well.ca carries Badger Sunscreen, so we are all in luck. We can all hide safely in our houses until the delivery van pulls up to our homes and unloads these skin-savers into our outstretched, glove-covered hands.

Actually, I just burn to death and then remember that I should have put some kukui oil and Badger sunscreen on.

Duh.

Free shipping and handling in Canada.

Kukui Nut Tree. Enjoy your bath –eczema-free!

When I first read that the Canadian company Upaya Naturals provided online customers with raw food delights, I wondered what kind of idiot can’t just buy a raw carrot from the local food store and eat it. Even if you are a shut-in, local stores deliver, so where is the market for Upaya Naturals?

Silly me. Upaya Naturals provides online shoppers with hard to find, all natural, vegan cheeses and ice creams that actually taste good while providing lots of nutrients. They arrive on ice to your very doorstep, where you can be waiting, crackers in hand, or spoon in fist, in eager anticipation of the yummy, delectable treats that are being delivered to your home.

Cashew-based Ice Cream. It tastes like dairy ice cream, without the guilt.

If you find the wait too exciting, be sure to order aromatherapy essential oils that calm the nerves, and smell divine.

Get all of your favourite blender recipes at the ready also. Upaya Naturals carriesVitamix and Blendtec blenders, the cadillac of blenders/juicers on the market today. You can prepare bread mixtures, and soups, as well as smoothies and ice creams, without having to fiddle with numerous attachments. Push a button and you are off to the races.

The Vitamix Deluxe 5200 is touted as the best blender on the market, but the following videos offer conflicting evidence in this regard. You can also buy Vitamix at your friendly neighbourhood Costco store, if interested. You can save yourself the shipping fees that way, as they are presently on sale, and therefore cost the same as ordering from the company online. Ask for a demo before you buy.

The Vitamix Blendtec Kitchen Aid Challenge. You decide. The facts in these two videos conflict. Kitchen Aid is far less expensive and appears to do the trick.

The Vitamix Blendtec Challenge.

Why pay for Blendtec or for Vitamix if Kitchen Aid is just as efficient, if not moreso? And it’s half the price at $199.00 How do they all fare with breadmaking? We want more tests please, before we take a Vitamix home!

Upaya Naturals also carries Superfoods, Greens etc. that are vegan-friendly. Power up so that you will have th strength inyour arms to lift that spoonful of healthy cashew-based ice cream to your lips, over and over again. After all, you have many delectable flavours to try. You need muscle mass.

So please, do yourself a favour and check out Upaya Naturals’ website.

I can hardly wait to try the cashew-based ice creams. I have never tried them before, but everyone says that they are great. I know that there are some almond and soy-based ice creams that are out there these days that are absolutely delicious. I wonder if the cashew-based ice creams give them a run for their money?

And don’t forget to brush your teeth! Yep. Upaya Naturals carries healthy, flouride-free tooth cleansers also. And skincare products. And the kitchen sink. Okay, everything but.

Speaking of the kitchen sink. Upaya Naturals carries one of, if not the best, water filtration systems on the market today: Wellness Kitchen S-III Filtration. This countertop water filtration system can also be easily mounted under the sink with the purchase of an adapter kit. What is most wonderful about this Wellness filtration system is that trace mineral that we need for our health are added back to the water supply after filteration has occurred. If you are concerned about pharmaceuticals, heavy metals and fecal matter making it into your drinking and bathing water, this filtration system will give you the quality of water and the peace of mind you need.

Unless, of course, you enjoy all those pharmaceuticals in your water!

Perhaps we could just bottle it and sell it ourselves to those chronics residing in families that have purchased water filters.

Hmmm.

Just an evil, entrepreneurial thought.

Pat.

These Greek men are actually all over 65 years old. Blue longevity zone living.

You believe me?!

What are you, a Cretan?

Tee hee.

There is a new product out on the market these days called Greek Island Lab’s Natural Joint. It is not a new kind of pot, like many of you might have hoped.

Okay, like I might have hoped.

It is not made out of the joint bones of Labrador Retrievers who met an untimely demise while vacationing with their owners in Crete. I know that this is what most of you were thinking, but you were wrong.

Greek Island Lab’s Natural Joint is a blend of 37 fruits and vegetables that have been keeping Greek men and women lithe and limber well into their nineties and beyond!
>

The good men and women of the islands of Crete and Ikaria have been enjoying better health and greater longevity than the rest of us for long enough. Apparently, their diet is the key to very few aches and pains, and amazing physical well-being. I think it is the red wine, myself, but I am willing to give this vegetable-fruit thing a try.

Google longevity medical or longevity reviews for more information on blue zones. Google blue zones too, of course, and watch Oprah on Youtube.

And if you like movies and lots of colourful pictures, then you will like the Natural Joint website. Dr. Mark Binette will give you a guided tour of the research and benefits of each of the ingredients found in this formula. Well, almost. He leaves out a few ingredients, possibly for proprietary reasons, or because he can’t count. You decide.

Of course, everything contained in the encapsulated form can be found in nature, and eaten in its natural state. Like the Greeks do.

So go ahead and eat these 37 items everyday, religiously.

Or agnostically.

Or simply drink a bottle of red wine, purely for the antioxidants, and gobble a Greek Island Lab’s Natural Joint capsule.

Since most of us cannot uproot and move to Crete anytime soon, Greek Island Lab has stuffed the entire Greek diet into capsules, sans meat, and shipped it off to you.

If glucosamine and chondroitin aren’t working for you, or if you are allergic to shellfish and sharks or don’t like killing crustaceans and cute little Great Whites, then this power-packed, vegan-friendly product could be your salvation. This product alleviates joint pain, strengthens joints and doesn’t spike your blood sugars like glucosamine.

So far, the reviews are great. Check them out for yourself at http://www.naturaljoint.com.

And Oma.

Oh yes. Am I bad. That is Dutch – and German.

No wonder the Greeks smash their plates when they say it.

Get over the war, already, YaYa and Pappous!

Thanks to your healthy Cretan/Ikarian diet, you are probably the only ones still alive that fought in it.

Get in on the eternal youth and fitness action. Check out http://www.naturaljoint.com.

I don’t make a dime off this, so it had better be good.

Wait.

That didn’t come out right.

Sulfur MSM (traffic generating phrase)

Of course you do. You have lots of them. And if you are like the rest of us, some of them hurt, a lot.

Glucosamine has been on the market now for some time, and many people are finding great relief from joint pain thanks to this product. Until recently, most of glucosamine on the market has been derived from the shells of various crustaceans. Anyone with a shellfish allergy is not encouraged to use glucosamine for this reason. Some individuals just get rashes, others are less fortunate.

They die.

Sulfur MSM

Not Maru. She eats anything. Sentient, that is. And cereal with milk and sugar. A cereal killer.

Others are vegetarian or vegan and would rather suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune than take glucosamine made from murdered, sentient beings.

However murderous those little crustaceans and sharks - as in shark cartilage – might be.

Sulfur MSM

Glucosamine Hydrochloride from a vegetarian source, has quickly become more popular in Europe than other forms of glucosamine for the reasons cited above. Britain seems to be leading the way with the sales of this product on the internet. It is easier to find a reputable source in England than here on the North American continent when doing a web search. Or any search, actually. I live just north of Toronto, and our main hub-town of Newmarket, with a population of 85,000 people, has one of the largest Natural Food and alternative therapy stores around, and they do not carry vegan-friendly, shellfish allergy-friendly glucosamine.

So we’re all shopping in England folks!

Vegan Health and Beauty.com is the website to check out for Deva Vegan Glucosamine, MSM & CMO. Deva Glucosamine is derived from corn. MSM (Methyl Sulfonyl Methane) is a natural source of organic sulphur. The body needs this to produce collagen. It is also required for many of the body’s structural molecules, according to the website.CMO (Cetyl Myristoleate) is a natural anti-inflammatory which this manufacturer has derived from plant sources. Safe for vegans.

All their prices are listed in various international currencies, including Canada and the United States, so we are all in luck.

I am not receiving any financial reward for sending you to this site. It just offers the best product, in my opinion.

Check with your qualified health practitioner before using any supplement, of course.

Yes.

Right.

Here’s a simple and apparently quite effective nutritional program that is easy to self-regulate without a lot of brain power. Sounds tailor-made for me.

Emily Isaacson, a certified naturopath from the Xa:ytem First Nation of British Columbia, has designed The Rainbow Program. Six small meals a day as opposed to the more usual three square (plus elevenses for we Hobbits).

And Rainbow is not just a cute name. Rainbow refers to the fact that if you select one serving from each of the food colour groups each day, you will be providing your body with a completely balanced intake of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients such as antioxidants, in the correct amounts to boost your metabolism, slim down, and stay energized and become mentally sharp.

If you choose a starch from one of the colour groups, for example, you would balance that out with a choice of a protein from another colour group, and a fat from yet another group. Each of the six small meals must cover one of the colour groups not included in the other meals. Fruits are taken away from other foods in order to aid in effective, non-overtaxed digestion.

Apparently, this colour-coded culinary approach works like a charm.

Eat losing weight. (Necessary keyword phrase for the search engines, folks. Gotta do it.)

Please check out Ms. Isaacson’s successful, delightful, and extremely colourful nutritional program at the following URL: http://www.therainbowprogram.com/. Eat losing weight. (Keyword phrase necessary for traffic. My apologies.)

Also check out the Xaytem Healing Program and Xaytem Longhouses. Perhaps you will find this path to health is just for you!

Just think of the fun we could have with colour-blind people.

Yes.

I mean, no.

Pass me a carrot.

And some avocado.

And some nachos?

Fine. No nachos.

Chips? No chips.

cheeburger, pepsi, coke, no pepsi

I miss you John Belushi.

But I don’t feel like joining you anytime soon, so I’ll try the Rainbow diet.

And oh yeah; eat losing weight.

Bad grammar brings big traffic. New online mantra. It’s the only way I’ll get used to the use of keyword inserts.

Pat.

It would appear that there are currently in the neighbourhood of 50 bajillion multi-vitamin and mineral supplements on the market today. I have gone to numerous sites in an attempt to discern if anyone out there has an idea as to how one goes about determining which multi-vitamin and mineral supplement, if any, would be the best one for his or her body.

Good luck with that.

The obvious loser is the lead-contaminated Vitamin Shoppe offering, and Hero brand children’s multivitamin has twice the amount of vitamin A as is stated on the packaging. Centrum, although extremely popular and highly touted by doctors, contains evil additives and hydrogentated vegtable oil for god’s sake.

How many times have we been told by every health educator and his brother that hydrogenated vegetable oil lines our arteries like plastic? Amway also adds hydrogenated vgetable oil to their otherwise excellent whole-food based vitamin and mineral supplements. It is the best selling multivitamin and mineral supplement in the world, and they can’t be responsible enough to remove the hydrogenated vegetable oil.

Do they think that the army of researchers the world over that have corroborated a milion times over that hydrogenated vegetable oil is not good for arterial health are just making it up? Even John Q Public knows this by now, so why are they still using the stuff? If we keep using it the problem will go away?

It just might, by natural selection. Perhaps only 30 per cent of the population forms plastic-coated arteries and dies from hydrogenated vegetable oil. Who knows? I don’t wish to be the guinea pig. Get it out of the peanut butter while you’re at it. Children who don’t die from peanut allergies eat that stuff, you psychopaths.

Speaking of children, Flintstones multivitamins are considered quite good by reviewers. Dr. Sahelian’s MultiVit RX is highly touted by his followers, but Dr. Mercola’s whole food-based multi-vitamin and mineral supplement is very impressive.

Dr. Mercola’s website is also user-friendly and most informative. Dr. Mercola also offers a 100 per cent money-back guarantee. His whole food-based, highly absorbable multivitamin and mineral supplement looks like the best place to start. Dr. Mercola has gone the extra mile in the development of his multi-supplement. He brings up the valid point that many multi mineral supplements have minerals in forms which may result in toxic build-up. Not his, he says.

Dr. Mercola is a controversial figure in the world of health science and alternative health therapy. Check out his site for yourself.

When it comes to a safe, dependable multivitamin and mineral supplement, I think that Dr. Mercola is right on the money. And Dr. Mercola likes money. And a solid reputation. If he sold crap he would not be in business long. He already takes a stance against EMF pollution and has long warned against the prolonged use of cell phones since research points to brain cancer in mice.

But you know mice.

Talk, talk, talk, talk, talk.

Once they got that text messaging down pat, voila, no more brain cancer.

Carpal tunnel on the other hand…

The point is that Dr. Mercola wants to keep us healthy in as natural a way as is possible. He might be a fanatic, but this can only mean that he has gone the extra mile in order to ensure that his whole food-based multivitamin formula is founded on sound nutritive and absorption availability principles.

Pharmaceutical companies don’t like him because he doesn’t trust the motivations behind pharmaceutical companies.

Do you?

Check out the info on mulitvitamins and mineral supplements at mercola.com. 100 per cent money back guarantee.

And once again, but not always, I do not stand to gain financially from this suggestion.

For those seeking health products and foods that are in concert with vegan tenets, Solay Wellness products are definitely for you. I’ve checked the Environmental workers Group SkinDeep cosmetic safety database, and all of their products have been given the green light. Literally.

Check my post on safe toothpastes and mouthwash. I discuss this group in greater detail there.

The EWG researchers stand alone, like the Environmental Protection Agency. They are not in the pocket of any pharmaceutical company. They depend upon donations to keep their website and research up and running. The EWG uses a stoplight system of assessment with regard to the safety of cosmetic and toiletry products on the market today.

Green means that the EWG have not found any dangerous compounds which are carcinogenic or pathogenic. It does not mean that one is safe from allergies, however. Natural products, as we all know by this point in time, can cause allergic reactions just like man-made chemicals. All the ingredients are clearly listed, so that you can easily guage your own sensitivities to any products.

I am personally going to start with the Solay toothpowder and see what it is like. And their face cream. Solay carry an anti-aging cream and I will spread it on my toast if that will help!

I love toast.

And they sell coffee and tea too!

And caramels.

And chocolate.

And granola.

All organically grown ingredients.

That means I can eat more.

And what on earth are these salt lamps that they advocate?

Solay carries natural salt crystal lamps, which give off a soft, ambient glow and provide negative ions to the atmosphere. Negative ions are beneficial in that they apparently make the air easier to breathe for people with asthma, chronic lung conditions and air-borne irritant allergies. They are also touted in the literature to improve memory and learning capabilities.

I will look into the scientific basis for these additional claims in my next blog.

What was I just saying?

Solay Wellness carries products for your pets too!

Delicious vegan cookies, and cruely-free shampoo, and pet beds. Your cat might be a killer, and your dog might kill cats, but at least their little tummies will have one less evilly-gotten thing in them with these tasty, healthy morsels from Solay.

Check out the Solay Wellness website.

That is the URL for the Environmental Energy Worker’s Skin Deep: cosmetic safety database.

Did you know that one third of all cosmetics include at least one ingredient known to be carcinogenic? And these are not trace elements, but base elements, as the good folks at Skin Deep are quick to point out.

These researchers have done their due diligence on behalf of us all, and have taken an unbiased look into what goes into our skin creams, nail polish, shampoos, toothpastes, mouthwashes, eye drops, nasal sprays, hair dyes, lipsticks and mascaras. They have rated the products, based upon the safety of their ingredients, on a stoplight scale, red being full of known carcinogens or heavy metals in harmful amounts, yellow, less of the same, and green. Green, one would think, would mean totally safe, but the people at EWG go one better, and rate this category from 0-2.

All of your favourite brand names are listed here, as well as more obscure, so-called “alternative” brands. These brands are the ones most often rated Green 0. But not always. The EWG also rate companies on their willingness to conform to international safety standards that have been set, and by their stand on the use or non-use of animals for testing.

Did you know that all of our favourite, name-brand toothpastes are full of known carcinogens and suspected pathogens? Why don’t we have simple, safe toothpaste?

We have mascaras made with mercury, which can travel into the eye and onwards to the brain when we wipe away tears, or mercury-laden mascara dust.

We still have Grecian Formula hair dye for men full of lead.

Please see my pages on the very real dangers of lead.

They are listed at the top of the homepage, in case any of you missed them.

I am not going to name any more names here, because I would like you to check out the EWG website. They do accept donations. They are like the EPA of the cosmetic industry. We need to support them.

So, as I have said, for the straight goods on what is safe and what is definitely idiotic to use, check out the Environmental Energy Workers’ Skin Deep cosmetic safety database.

How hard can it possibly be to make a safe toothpaste? Why are these dangerous products allowed to be on our store shelves? What are we, nuts? They most certainly are for launching such products on a trusting public. Who do they think uses these products, evil enemy aliens from a dark planet, or our own beloved families? I was going to say kids, but everyone matters, not just children.

Goodbye Colgate, my old friend and excellent teeth-whitener. It turns out that you are evil.

Hello safe, Green 0 toothpaste powder.

Hey! They should make a brand of products called Green 0 !

“Buy what is safe, and works. Stick to Green 0 !”

Check the massive list.

The EWG researchers have done this research for you.

Meanwhile, I’ll check out brands that pass the Green 0 muster.

“Safe toothpaste for all!”

That will be my new rally cry.

So far, it looks like Solay Wellness Incorporated fits the bill.

I’ll be checking the Skin Deep cosmetic safety database list for the status of Solay’s vegan-friendly products.

See you next post with the results!

Pat — the person that loves you!

Be safe.
